The Subcommittee on Communications met this day at 11:02 a.m., in Room 705, Victoria Building, the Chair, the Honourable Marie-P. Poulin, presiding.

Members of the subcommittee present: The Honourable Senators DeWare, Finestone, P.C., and Poulin (3).

In attendance: From the Research Branch of the Library of Parliament: Terrence Thomas; and Tony Hodgkinson, Researcher for the Subcommittee.

Pursuant to the Order of Reference adopted by the Senate on Wednesday, February 23, 2000, and the Orders of Reference adopted by Standing Senate Committee on Transport and Communications on Wednesday, February 16, 2000 and Wednesday, March 1, 2000, the subcommittee continued its study of the policy issues for the 21st century in communications technology, its consequence, competition and the outcome for consumers. The Chair made a statement.

Mr. Phillips made a statement and, together with the other witnesses, answered questions.

At 12:07 p.m. the sitting was suspended.

At 12:20 p.m. the sitting resumed.

At 1:15 p.m., the subcommittee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
