The Standing Senate Committee on Official Languages met this day at 5:02 p.m. in room 9 of the Victoria Building, the chair, the Honourable Maria Chaput, presiding.

Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Champagne, P.C., Chaput, Comeau, Fortin- Duplessis, Goldstein, Jaffer and Tardif (7).

Other senator present: The Honourable Senator Rivard (1).

Also present: Marie-Ève Hudon, Analyst, Parliamentary Information and Research Service, Library of Parliament.

In attendance: The official reporters of the Senate.

Pursuant to the order of reference adopted by the Senate on Wednesday, February 25, 2009, the committee continued to examine the application of the Official Languages Act and of the regulations and directives made under it, within those institutions subject to the act. (For the full text of the order of reference, see Issue No. 1 of the committee proceedings.)

WITNESSES:

Fédération des communautés francophones et acadienne du Canada:

Suzanne Bossé, Director General;

Diane Côté, Director, Community and Government Relations.

Fédération culturelle canadienne-française:

Raymonde Boulay-Leblanc, President;

Annick Schulz, Director, Communications and Public Relations.

Ms. Bossé and Ms. Boulay-Leblanc made presentations, and along with Ms. Côté and Ms. Schulz, answered questions.

At 6:21 p.m., the committee suspended.

At 6:24 p.m., the committee reconvened in camera, pursuant to rule 92(2)(e), to consider a draft agenda.

At 6:38 p.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the chair.
