The Standing Senate Committee on Official Languages met this day at 5:04 p.m. in room 9 of the Victoria Building, the chair, the Honourable Maria Chaput, presiding.
Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Champagne, P.C., Chaput, Comeau, Jaffer, Losier- Cool, Mockler and Tardif (7).
Also present: Marie-Êve Hudon, Analyst, Parliamentary Information and Research Service, Library of Parliament.
In attendance: The official reporters of the Senate.
Pursuant to the Order of Reference adopted by the Senate on Wednesday, February 25, 2009, the committee continued its study on the application of the Official Languages Act and of the regulations and directives made under it, within those institutions subject to the act. (For the complete text of the Order of Reference, see committee, Issue No. 1.)
Pursuant to rule 92(2)(f), the committee sat in camera to examine a draft budget.
At 5:22 p.m., the committee suspended.
At 5:23 p.m., the committee resumed in public.
It was agreed that the following budget requests made in connection with the special study on the application of the Official Languages Act for the fiscal year ending March 31, 2010 be adopted and submitted to the Standing Committee on Internal Economy, Budgets and Administration.

Scott Hutton, Executive Director of Broadcasting;
Annie Laflamme, Director, French Languages Television Policy and Applications.
Mr. Hutton made a presentation and, together with Ms. Laflamme, answered questions.
At 6:57 p.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the chair.
