The Standing Senate Committee on National Finance met this day, at 5 p.m., in room 9, Victoria Building, the chair, the Honourable Joseph A. Day, presiding.

Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Callbeck, Day, Eaton, Gerstein, Marshall, Mockler, Nancy Ruth, Neufeld, Ringuette and Runciman (10).

In attendance: John Bulmer and Sylvain Fleury, Analysts, Parliamentary Information and Research Service, Library of Parliament and Jean-Pierre Morin, Communications Officer, Communications Directorate.

Also in attendance: The official reporters of the Senate.

Pursuant to the order of reference adopted by the Senate on Thursday, June 9, 2011, the committee began its examination of the expenditures set out in the Supplementary Estimates (A) for the fiscal year ending March 31, 2012.

WITNESSES:

Treasury Board of Canada Secretariat:

Bill Matthews, Assistant Secretary, Expenditure Management Sector;

Sally Thornton, Executive Director, Expenditure Operations and Estimates, Expenditure Management Sector;

Marcia Santiago, Senior Director, Expenditure Information Division.

The chair made an opening statement.

Mr. Matthews made a statement and, together with Ms. Thornton and Ms. Santiago, answered questions.

At 6:32 p.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the chair.
