The Standing Senate Committee on Transport and Communications met this day at 9:32 a.m., in room 257, East Block, the chair, the Honourable Dennis Dawson, presiding.

Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Dawson, Eggleton, P.C., Greene, Housakos, MacDonald,, Maltais, McInnis, Plett and Verner, P.C. (9).

In attendance: Terrence Thomas, Analyst, Parliamentary Information and Research Service, Library of Parliament.

Also in attendance: The official reporters of the Senate.

The Honourable Senator Plett moved:

That pending the consideration by the Senate of an order of reference for a study into the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation, the following special study budget application for the fiscal year ending March 31, 2013, be approved for submission to the Standing Committee on Internal Economy, Budgets and Administration:

The question being put on the motion, it was adopted.

At 9:33 a.m, pursuant to rule 12-16(1)(d), the committee proceeded in camera to consider a draft agenda (future business).

It was agreed that the chair be authorized to seek authority from the Senate for the following order of reference:

That the Standing Senate Committee on Transport and Communications be authorized to examine and report on the challenges faced by the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation in relation to the changing environment of broadcasting and communications.

That the committee report to the Senate from time to time, with a final report no later than June 30, 2015 and that the committee retain all powers necessary to publicize its findings until 180 days after the tabling of the final report.

At 9:45 a.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the chair.
