The Standing Senate Committee on Indigenous Peoples met this day at 9 a.m., in room C128, Senate of Canada Building, the chair, the Honourable Brian Francis, presiding.
Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Arnot, Boniface, Coyle, Francis, Hartling, Prosper and White (7).
In attendance: Sara Fryer and Antoine Csuzdi-Vallée, analysts, Library of Parliament.
Pursuant to the order of reference adopted by the Senate on Thursday, May 9, 2024, the committee continued its consideration of the subject matter of those elements contained in Divisions 25 and 26 of Part 4 of Bill C-69, An Act to implement certain provisions of the budget tabled in Parliament on April 16, 2024.

Marcel Balfour, Hilda Anderson-Pyrz and Jennifer Jesty each made a statement and answered questions.
At 9:59 a.m., the committee suspended.
At 10:05 a.m., the committee resumed.
Krista Apse and Kenza El Bied each made a statement and, together with Adrian Walraven, answered questions.
At 10:35 a.m., the committee suspended.
At 10:37 a.m., pursuant to rule 12-16(1)(d), the committee resumed in camera to discuss a draft report.
It was agreed that the committee allow the audio recording of the in camera portion of today's meeting, that a copy be kept with the clerk of the committee for consultation by committee members or staff, and that the audio recording be destroyed by the clerk when authorized to do so by the Subcommittee on Agenda and Procedure, but no later than at the end of this parliamentary session.
After debate, it was agreed that the report recommend that the Senate approve the provisions of those elements contained in Divisions 25 and 26 of Part 4 of Bill C-69, An Act to implement certain provisions of the budget tabled in Parliament on April 16, 2024.
It was agreed that the approval of the final version of the report, in both official languages, be delegated to the Subcommittee on Agenda and Procedure, taking into consideration the discussions of the meetings of May 31 and June 4, 2024, and that the chair table the report in the Senate, at the earliest opportunity.
At 10:44 a.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the chair.
