Alison Korn joins the Senate as Issues Management and Media Relations Advisor
Ottawa, October 12, 2017 – The Standing Committee on Internal Economy, Budgets and Administration is pleased to announce the addition of Alison Korn as Issues Management and Media Relations Advisor.
Ms. Korn, who assumes her new position Monday, October 16, 2017, was the successful candidate following an open application process.
She will be responsible for ensuring the media receive timely, accurate responses to all enquiries regarding matters that fall under the purview of the Internal Economy Committee. These responsibilities have been undertaken by the staff of the Chair and Deputy Chair of the Subcommittee on Communications since the role was created two years ago on a recommendation of the Blueprint Report.
"Our media relations process has proven its worth over the past two years, not only for its efficiency in making sure media, and by extension Canadians, get answers in a timely fashion but also because we now have senators speaking on behalf of senators, taking direct responsibility for our decisions and actions," said Senator Leo Housakos, the Chair of the Internal Economy Committee.
The Blueprint Report, adopted in February 2015, has been a meaningful tool in the Senate's commitment to efficiency, transparency and accountability.
"The Senate has completely transformed the way we communicate with Canadians. It is evident in our social media presence, our engagement with Canadians, our committee reports and with our media relations. And now we are pleased to have Alison joining us to be part of our team,” said Senator Jane Cordy, Deputy Chair of the Internal Economy Committee.
Ms. Korn comes to the Senate from the Canadian Paralympic Committee where she served six years as Senior Manager, Corporate Communications and Media Relations. She previously had a 10-year career as a journalist, following her Olympic rowing career. She speaks English, French, German and Spanish.
