Senate recalled in anticipation of COVID-19 legislation
Ottawa — The Senate will sit on Wednesday, March 25, 2020, at 10 a.m. It is anticipated that the Senate will meet for the consideration of measures in response to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Whenever the Senate stands adjourned, it can be recalled by the Speaker if this is deemed to be in the public interest. The Senate’s priority remains the health and safety of all Canadians. It has already taken preventative and proactive measures in response to COVID-19, and will continue to work in collaboration with its parliamentary partners to limit the spread of the virus.
During the recall, steps will be taken to ensure the health and safety of senators and staff involved in Chamber operations. This includes operating with the minimum number of employees required to work on-site to support the sitting. The Senate will continue to broadcast proceedings via ParlVU and to live-tweet key information about debates in the Chamber.
