Ottawa — The Senate will sit on Friday, May 1, 2020, at 12 p.m. It is anticipated that the Senate will meet for the consideration of a bill to enact measures relating to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The decision to recall the Senate during a period of adjournment is taken if the Speaker is satisfied that the public interest would be served by meeting earlier than the originally specified date.

The Senate’s priority remains the health, safety and well-being of all Canadians, and preventative and proactive measures have been taken to ensure that senators and staff are protected in this regard. In keeping with previous recalls of the Senate, certain adjustments are in effect for this week’s sitting, including limiting the number of employees required to physically report to work.

Chamber proceedings will continue to be broadcast via ParlVU, and important information about the debates will be live-tweeted via the Senate’s Twitter feed.
