COVID-19 Pandemic Response Plan
March 20, 2024
Senator Gold, a panel of experts chaired by Sir Mark Walport from the U.K. began a review into a limited component of the government’s COVID-19 pandemic response. We were told that the panel’s report would be available by the first quarter of 2024. Well, that’s now.
Would you please tell us when we can expect this report to be made available to us? Could you please provide this chamber with a list of witnesses that the panel has heard from to date?
Thank you for your questions, senator. I don’t have that information at hand, but I will endeavour to inform myself as quickly as I can.
Senator Gold, the mandate for this panel was very limited. It was definitely not a comprehensive review of our government’s response to the pandemic.
Can you please tell us why this government did not initiate a comprehensive inquiry into the way Canada responded to the pandemic similarly to the reviews carried out in Australia and by the British Medical Association in the United Kingdom? Can we expect the government to follow these examples? If so, when? If not, why not?
Well, thank you for your questions. I’ll add them to the questions that I will address to the minister.
