Thursday, February 3, 2022 – Senator Renée Dupuis speaks during a virtual event, organized by the Embassy of Canada in France, that brought together speakers from both countries to discuss the subject of reconciliation. The event was moderated by Alain G. Gagnon, President-elect of the Royal Society of Canada, and the opening remarks were delivered by Canada’s governor general, Her Excellency the Right Honourable Mary Simon.
Saturday, February 5, 2022 – Senator Salma Ataullahjan (top right) joins members of the Korean community in celebrating the Lunar New Year — the year of the Black Tiger, which symbolizes vitality and health.
Tuesday, February 8, 2022 – Senators Wanda Thomas Bernard, Marilou McPhedran and Kim Pate took part in a virtual panel discussion on youth community engagement with Brock University students. Dr. Heather Ramey, assistant professor at the university’s Department of Child and Youth Studies moderated the session. Senators shared with students how community engagement shaped who they are today and how today’s youth can further get involved in society.
Wednesday, February 9, 2022 – Senator Marie-Françoise Mégie speaks to students at l’École secondaire Calixa-Lavallée in Montréal, Quebec, as part of a SENgage-organized event to celebrate Black History Month. The senator discussed her path to the Upper Chamber, her career as a doctor, as well as anti-Black racism and youth civic engagement.
Thursday, February 10, 2022 – Senator Wanda Thomas Bernard celebrates Black History Month with students at Auburn Drive High School in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia, during a virtual SENgage-organized event. The senator spoke about the exploits of numerous Black Canadians and took questions from students.
Friday, February 11, 2022 – Senators Julie Miville-Dechêne and Bernadette Clement participate in an activity called “express committee meetings” during the 11th Legislature of the Pan-Canadian Youth Parliament. The senators, who were invited as expert witnesses on the issues of modern slavery and housing, answered questions from mock MPs to help fuel debate during the simulated House of Commons sessions.

Tuesday, February 15, 2022 – Senator Ratna Omidvar participates in a panel discussion with Rory Stewart, former U.K. secretary of state for international development, and Dr. Orzala Nemat, director of the Afghanistan Research and Evaluation Unit. The panel, hosted by the Atlantic Council, examined the current state of the Afghan refugee crisis.

Saturday, February 19, 2022 – Senator Rob Black presents a congratulatory certificate to members of Ontario Fairs, which is celebrating its 175th anniversary this year. The senator also presented remarks during the association’s convention, in which he thanked the hardworking board and volunteers for providing resources, education and support to local agricultural societies across Ontario.
Monday, February 21, 2022 – Senators Lucie Moncion and René Cormier speak with members of l’Alliance des femmes de la francophonie canadienne. During the virtual meeting, the group discussed the needs and issues of francophone immigrant women and French-Canadian women’s organizations.
