Tuesday, June 28, 2022 – Senator Ratna Omidvar (sitting, second to the right) attends a roundtable discussion in Toronto between women leaders of Canada and Afghanistan, including the Honourable Elizabeth Dowdeswell, Lieutenant Governor of Ontario (front centre). They explored how to support the leadership journeys of Afghan women leaders who have already settled in Canada. Massey College, the Canadian Association of Former Parliamentarians and the Canadian Association of Feminist Parliamentarians hosted the event with the help of Senator Marilou McPhedran.

The senators appreciated taking a moment to remember the battalion’s sacrifice as an important part of history.

The high school students from Manitoba, Ontario and Quebec learned about the role of the Senate in Parliament and how senators give a voice to underrepresented groups. Senator Clement also answered their questions about her path to the Upper Chamber.

Friday, July 15, 2022 – As part of Le Rendez-vous de la Fierté Acadie Love (in French only) in Caraquet, New Brunswick, Senator René Cormier (right) and Silvan Agius, a European Human Rights expert, engage in a candid conversation on the disparities between the everyday experiences of LGBTQ2, cisgender and heterosexual people at different points in their lives and in different social contexts. A fruitful exchange with the audience also took place, in which everyone reflected on their personal experiences and the changes they wish to see in society.
