Wednesday, March 8, 2023 – Senator Rob Black, Chair of the Senate Committee on Agriculture and Forestry, speaks to the Canadian Federation of Agriculture (CFA) board of directors and other stakeholders in Ottawa, Ontario. He gave a presentation on the committee’s ongoing soil health study for the CFA’s annual general meeting, which invites participants from across the industry to support agriculture, agri-food and processing sectors.


Wednesday, March 15, 2023 – Senator Michèle Audette visits Dr. Jodey Nurse’s class at the McGill Institute for the Study of Canada. In this session organized by SENgage, the senator spoke about her path to the Senate and her work in the Upper Chamber as part of the class’s study on Indigenous governance.


Monday, March 20, 2023 – Senator Bernadette Clement visits Grade 5 students at École élémentaire catholique Bernard-Grandmaître in Ottawa, Ontario, for International Francophonie Day. As a Franco-Ontarian, she spoke about the important role the Senate plays in the legislative process and her path to the Upper Chamber.


Tuesday, March 21, 2023 – Senator Tony Loffreda attends a Greek Independence Day celebration on Parliament Hill and meets Konstantina Athanassiadou, Greek Ambassador to Canada. The following week, Senator Loffreda introduced Bill S-259, the Hellenic Heritage Month Act, to honour Greek Canadians.


Tuesday, March 28, 2023 – Senator Mohamed-Iqbal Ravalia, left, and Fahad Saeed Mohamed Abdulla Al Raqbani, United Arab Emirates Ambassador to Canada, co-host a Ramadan Iftar in the Senate of Canada Building in Ottawa, Ontario. Over 150 parliamentarians and foreign dignitaries attended this special event where they enjoyed a meal and honoured Muslim communities.


Tuesday, March 28, 2023 – Senator Jane Cordy, second row, second from left, honours nine sailors for exemplary service to the Royal Canadian Navy and the Canadian Coast Guard during a ceremony the senator co-sponsored with the Speaker of the Senate, George F. Furey, in the Senate Chamber. The ceremony took place on Navy and Coast Guard Appreciation Day, a longtime Senate event.


Thursday, March 30, 2023 – Senator Stan Kutcher speaks to students from Dr. Heather Ramey’s community engagement course at Brock University. As part of this virtual session coordinated by SENgage, he spoke about the work he is currently doing in the Senate and the importance of engaging with community organizations.


Friday, March 31, 2023 – Senator Michèle Audette meets with undergraduate students at the University of Sherbrooke. In this virtual meeting organized by SENgage, she described her journey to the Senate. She also facilitated a discussion and question period on the relationship between governments and Indigenous peoples, and reconciliation.


Monday, April 3, 2023 – Senator Paula Simons, third row, centre, joins the City of Edmonton’s first Iftar celebration with Edmonton Mayor Amarjeet Sohi and other members of the community to break the fast.


Tuesday, April 4, 2023 – Senator Yuen Pau Woo, through a meeting organized by SENgage, meets with first-year students at the University of British Columbia. He spoke about his path to the Senate and his work as a senator. He also answered questions on Canadian and international politics.


Tuesday, April 4, 2023 – Senator Paula Simons, second row, centre, visits Grade 9 social studies students – and their therapy dog – at Namao School in Sturgeon County, Alberta. During the SENgage event, the senator shared insights about her journey to the Red Chamber and her responsibilities. The students also had the opportunity to ask questions about her work.


Tuesday, April 4, 2023 – Senators Rosa Galvez, right, and Wanda Thomas Bernard, left, receive an award during the Top 25 Women of Influence Luncheon in Toronto, Ontario. Both senators have been recognized for their initiative, inspiration and influence in their respective fields and for their contributions to the advancement of women. Senator Bernard notably received the Top 25 Women of Influence Lifetime Achievement Award.


Wednesday, April 5, 2023 – Senator Pierre J. Dalphond welcomes University of Ottawa Professor Pierre Martel’s students to the Red Chamber. The senator introduced them to the Senate Chamber and answered many of their questions.


Wednesday, April 5, 2023 – Senator Michèle Audette visits Cégep de Sainte-Foy in Québec, where she met with students enrolled in Professor Chantal Cameron’s social work and social issues course.  The senator gave a speech on her background, the issues that affect First Nations, her life’s work and why she wanted to become a senator.


Thursday, April 6, 2023 – Senator Pierre J. Dalphond hosts University of Ottawa law students in Professor Giroux’s biology and ethics course to discuss medical aid in dying, in light of the recent report by the Special Joint Committee on Medical Assistance in Dying.
