The Standing Senate Committee on Agriculture and Forestry met at 5:13 p.m. this day, in camera, in Room 160-S (Subcommittee Room), the Chairman, the Honourable Senator Leonard J. Gustafson, presiding.
Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Chalifoux, Fairbairn, Gustafson, Hays, Robichaud, Spivak, Stratton and Whelan (8).
In attendance: June Dewetering and Frédéric Forge Research Officers, Research Branch, Library of Parliament.
Pursuant to its order of reference adopted by the Senate on Thursday, May 14, 1998, the committee continued its study of Recombinant Bovine Growth Somatotropine (rBST) and its effects on human and animal health safety.
It was agreed,
That the outline as amended be used for a draft interim report.
That Senators Gustafson, Whelan, Taylor, Spivak and Hays act as a drafting committee.
That the Chairman seek permission to table an interim report with the Clerk of the Senate is not sitting, and
That the interim report be tabled once the full committee has had an opportunity to comment by facsimile transmission.
It was agreed to print the above decision.
At 6:05 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.

Mrs. Sally Rutherford and Mrs. Jennifer Higginson each made a statement and, together, answered questions.
