The Standing Senate Committee on Agriculture and Forestry met at 9:13 a.m. this day, in Room 705-VB, the Deputy Chair, the Honourable Senator Eugene Whelan, P.C. presiding.
Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Hays, Kinsella, Robichaud, P.C. (Saint-Louis-de-Kent), Rossiter, Spivak and Whelan, P.C. (6).

Pursuant to its order of reference adopted by the Senate on Thursday, May 14, 1998, the committee continued its study on Recombinant Bovine Somatotropine (rBST) and its effect on the human and animal health aspects.
Mr. Steve Hindle made a statement.
Dr. Shiv Chopra, Dr. Margaret Haydon, Dr. Gérard Lambert and Dr. Thea Muller each made a statement and together answered questions.
The Honourable Senator Kinsella moved, -- That the clerk of this committee be instructed to prepare a paper outlining the anti-retaliation measures that can be taken by this committee or any committee of the Senate, should a committee witness be subjected to retaliation by any person or persons for having testified before the Senate committee and that the clerk look into the principle of the extension of parliamentary privilege.
The question being put on the motion, it was agreed.
At 11:21 a.m., the committee recessed.
At 11:35 a.m., the committee resumed.
Ms Angela Rickman, Mr. Victor Daniel, Ms Jo Dufay, Mr. Michael McBane and Mr. Peter Dowling each made statements and, together, answered questions.
At 1:15 p.m., the committee recessed.
At 2:04 p.m., the committee resumed.
