The Subcommittee on Communications of the Standing Senate Committee on Transport and Communications met at 3:35 p.m. this day, in Room 356-S, the Chairman, the Honourable Marie-P. Poulin, presiding.

Members of the subcommittee present: The Honourable Senators Johnson, Poulin, Rompkey, P.C., and Spivak (4).

In attendance: Matthew Fraser, special advisor to the subcommittee.

Also in attendance: The official reporters of the Senate.

George Addy, Executive Vice-President and Chief General Counsel; and

Lorna Higdon-Norrie, Vice-President, Public Policy and Government Affairs.

From the Canadian Film and Television Producers Association:

Elizabeth Mcdonald, President.

The subcommittee continued its consideration of Canada's international competitive position in communications as authorized by the Senate on October 29, 1997 and the committee on October 30, 1997 (see Issue No. 1, Thursday, October 30, 1997 for full text of Order of Reference).

The witnesses made a statement and answered questions.

At 5:15 p.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
