The Subcommittee on Communications of the Standing Senate Committee on Transport and Communications met at 4:30 p.m. this day, in Room 172-E, the Chairman, the Honourable Senator Poulin, presiding.

Members of the subcommittee present: The Honourable Senators Bacon, Johnson, Poulin and Rompkey (4).

In attendance: Terrence J. Thomas, Research Officer, Economics Division, Research Branch, Library of Parliament and Matthew Fraser, Special Advisors to the subcommittee.

Also in attendance: The official reporters of the Senate.

The subcommittee continued its consideration of Canada's international competitive position in Communications as authorized by the Senate on October 29, 1997 and the Committee on October 30, 1997. (See Issue No. 1, Thursday, October 30, 1997 for full text of Order of Reference.)

WITNESSES:

From Shaw Communications Inc:

Ken Stein, Senior Vice-President, Corporate and Regulatory Affairs;

Elizabeth Roscoe, Vice-President, Government Relations.

The witnesses each made a statement and answered questions.

At 5:35 p.m., the subcommittee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
