The Subcommittee on Communications of the Standing Senate Committee on Transport and Communications met in camera this day, at 3:30 p.m., in Room 356-S, Centre Block, the Chairman, the Honourable Senator Poulin, presiding.

Members of the subcommittee present: The Honourable Senators Bacon, Johnson, Maheu, Poulin and Spivak (5).

In attendance: Terrence J. Thomas, Research Officer, Economics Division, Research Branch, Library of Parliament, and Matthew Fraser, Special advisor to the Subcommittee.

Pursuant to the Orders of Reference adopted by the Senate on October 29, 1997 and the committee on October 30, 1997, the subcommittee continued its consideration of Canada's international competitive position in communications. (See Issue No. 1, Thursday, October 30, 1997 for full text of Order of Reference.)

The members of the subcommittee studied a draft of the report.

At 4:30 p.m., the subcommittee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
