The Subcommittee on Communications of the Standing Senate Committee on Transport and Communications met at 10:30 a.m. this day, in Room 505, Victoria Building, the Chairman, the Honourable Senator Poulin, presiding.

Members of the subcommittee present: The Honourable Senators Bacon, Maheu and Poulin (3).

In attendance: Terrence J. Thomas, Research Officer, Economics Division, Research Branch, Library of Parliament, Matthew Fraser, Special Advisor to the committee and Till Heyde, Legislative Clerk, Committees and Private Legislation Directorate.

Also in attendance: The official reporters of the Senate.

Pursuant to the Orders of Reference adopted by the Senate on October 29, 1997 and the committee on October 30, 1997, the subcommittee continued its consideration of Canada's international competitive position in communications. (See Issue No. 1, Thursday, October 30, 1997 for full text of Order of Reference.)
