The Subcommittee on Communications of the Standing Senate Committee on Transport and Communications met in camera this day, at 3:55 p.m., in Room 356-S, Centre Block, the Chair, the Honourable Senator Poulin, presiding.

Members of the subcommittee present: The Honourable Senators Johnson, Maheu, Poulin and Spivak (4).

In attendance: Terrence J. Thomas, Research Officer, Economics Division, Research Branch, Library of Parliament and Till Heyde, Legislative Clerk, Committees and Private Legislation Directorate.

Pursuant to the Orders of Reference adopted by the Senate on October 29, 1997 and the committee on October 30, 1997, the subcommittee continued its consideration of Canada's international competitive position in communications. (See Issue No. 1, Thursday, October 30, 1997 for full text of Order of Reference.)

The subcommittee proceeded to study a draft of the Report.

It was agreed to adopt the draft Report, subject to changes to be approved by the Chair and the Deputy Chair.

At 4:45 p.m., the subcommittee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
