The Standing Senate Committee on National Finance met at 10:45 a.m. this day, in Room 356-S, Centre Block, the Chairman, the Honourable Senator Stratton, presiding.

Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Bolduc, Cook, Cools, Ferretti Barth, Fraser, Lavoie-Roux, Lynch-Staunton, Mahovlich, Robichaud, P.C. (Saint-Louis-de-Kent) and Stratton (10).

In attendance: Mr. Guy Beaumier, Research Branch, Library of Parliament.

Also in attendance: The official reporters of the Senate.

Pursuant to the Order of Reference adopted by the Senate on Wednesday, March 10, 1999, the committee began its examination of the Supplementary Estimates (C) for the fiscal year ending March 31, 1999.

WITNESSES:

From the Treasury Board Secretariat:

Mr. Rick Neville, Assistant Secretary, Expenditure Analysis and Operations Sector;

Mr. Andrew Lieff, Director, Expenditure Operations Division.

Mr. Neville and Mr. Lieff answered questions.

Senator Cools moved that the Chairman report to the Senate on Supplementary Estimates (C) on Tuesday, March 16, 1999.

The question being put on the motion, it was adopted.

Senator Cools moved that the Chairman report to the Senate on Main Estimates for the fiscal year ending March 31, 1999.

The question being put on the motion, it was adopted.

Senator Cools moved -- That copy of the two reports be sent to members of the committee for their review and that comments be communicated to the Clerk of the Committee no later than 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, March 16, 1999.

The question being put on the motion, it was adopted on division.

The committee considered its future business.

At 12:50 p.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
