The Standing Senate Committee on National Finance met at 10:50 a.m. this day, in Room 356-S, the Chairman, the Honourable Senator Stratton, presiding.

Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Stratton, Cook, Cools, Ferretti Barth, Fraser, Lavoie-Roux, Mahovlich and Moore (8).

In attendance: Mr. Guy Beaumier, Research Branch, Library of Parliament.

Also in attendance: The official reporters of the Senate.

Pursuant to the Order of Reference adopted by the Senate on Wednesday, May 12, 1999, the committee began its examination of Bill C-71, An Act to implement certain provisions of the budget tabled in Parliament on February 16, 1999.

WITNESSES:

From the Social Science Employees Association:

Mr. William Krause, President;

Mr. Claude Danik, Research Officer.

Mr. Krause made an opening statement and, with the assistance of Mr. Danik, answered questions.

Senator Cools moved, -- That the committee complete clause-by-clause consideration of Bill C-71.

The question being put on the motion, it was adopted.

It was agreed -- That the title stand.

It was agreed -- That clause 1 stand.

Senator Cools moved, -- That clauses 2 to 13 (Part 1) carry.
