The Standing Senate Committee on Foreign Affairs met this day in room 356-S of the Centre Block, at 9:19 a.m., the Chairman, the Honourable John B. Stewart, presiding.
Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Andreychuk, Corbin, Di Nino, Stewart, Stollery and Whelan, P.C. (6).
Other Senator present: The Honourable Donald H. Oliver (1).
In attendance: Peter Berg, Economics Division, Research Branch of the Library of Parliament.
Also in attendance: The official reporters of the Senate.

From the Department of Foreign Affairs and International Trade:
William A. Dymond, Chief Negotiator for the Multilateral Agreement on Investment;
Blair Hankey, Senior Associate Counsel, Trade Law.
From Industry Canada:
Rob Ready, Acting Director, Investments and Services.
From the Department of Finance:
Doug Anderson, Chief, Trade in Services and Investment.
The committee began proceedings on the following Order of Reference: That the Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs be authorized to examine and report on the consequences for Canada of the emerging European Monetary Union and on other related trade and investment matters.
Mr. Dymond made a presentation and answered questions from committee members.
At 10:33 a.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
