The Standing Senate Committee on Legal and Constitutional Affairs, met this day, in Room 257, East Block, at 3:50 p.m., the Honourable Lorna Milne, Chair, presiding.

Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Beaudoin, Bryden, Buchanan, P.C., Carstairs, Lewis, Milne, Moore, Nolin, Pearson and Pépin (10).

Other senators present: The Honourable Senators Oliver and Poulin (2).

In attendance: Nancy Holmes and Marilyn Pilon, Research Officers, Research Branch, Library of Parliament.

Pursuant to the Order of Reference adopted by the Senate on Tuesday, June 8, 1999, the committee commenced its consideration of Bill C-79, An Act to amend the Criminal Code (victims of crime) and another Act in consequence.
