The Standing Senate Committee on Transport and Communications met this day at 11:05 a.m., the Chairman, the Honourable Lise Bacon, presiding.
Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Adams, Bacon, Bryden, De Bané, P.C., Nolin, Poulin and Rompkey, P.C. (7).

Pursuant to the Order of Reference adopted by the Senate on February 24, 1998, the committee began consideration of Bill C-17, an Act to amend the Telecommunications Act and the Teleglobe Canada Reorganization and Divestiture Act.
The witnesses from Industry Canada and North American Gateway Inc. each made a statement and answered questions.
At 12:25 p.m. the committee suspended.
At 12:50 p.m. the committee resumed.
The witnesses from ACC Tel Enterprises Ltd., from Stentor and from Teleglobe Inc. each made a statement and answered questions.
At 2:25 p.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
