The Standing Senate Committee on National Finance met at 9:33 a.m. this day, in Room 705 Victoria Building, the Chairman, the Honourable Senator Murray. P.C., presiding.
Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Cools, Doody, Ferretti Barth, Lynch-Staunton, Mahovlich, Moore, Stratton, Tkachuk (8).
In attendance: Mr. Guy Beaumier, Research Officer, Library of Parliament.
Also in attendance: The official reporters of the Senate.
WITNESSES:
From Treasury Board of Canada, Secretariat:
Mr. Andrew Lieff, Senior Director, Expenditure Operations and Estimates Division, Planning, Performance and Reporting Sector;
Mr. Richard Neville, Assistant Secretary and Assistant Comptroller General, Financial Management Policy and Analysis Sector.
Pursuant to the Order of Reference adopted by the Senate on November 17, 1999, the committee continued its examination of the Supplementary Estimates (A), laid before Parliament for the fiscal year ending March 31, 2000.
Mr. Neville made an opening statement and, with Mr. Lieff, answered questions.
At a later date, officials from the Treasury Board will provide written responses to questions asked by committee members.
It was agreed -- That the researcher prepare for approval at the committee's next meeting, November 30, 1999 at 9:30 a.m., a report containing the comments and concerns of the committee with regards to its examination of the Supplementary Estimates (A) for the fiscal year ending March 31, 2000. For that purpose, the next meeting will be in camera.
At 11:41 a.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
