The Standing Senate Committee on Banking, Trade and Commerce met this day, at 4:03 p.m. in room 505, Victoria Building, the Chair, the Honourable Jerahmiel S. Grafstein, presiding.
Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Angus, Chaput, Grafstein, Harb, Hervieux-Payette, P.C., Moore, Oliver, Plamondon and Tkachuk (9).
Other senators present: The Honourable Senators Gustafson and Mercer (2).
In attendance: Jean Dupuis and June Dewetering, Analysts, Library of Parliament.
Also present: The official reporters of the Senate.
Pursuant to the Order of Reference adopted by the Senate on Thursday, November 18, 2004, the committee began its consideration of issues dealing with charitable giving in Canada.

The Chair made an opening statement.
Mr. Nadeau and Ms. Trump made statements and with Mr. Juneau and Mr. de March answered questions.
The committee suspended at 5:01 p.m.
The committee resumed at 5:06 p.m.
Ms. Steinsky Schwartz, Mr. Brown, Mr. Johnson, Mr. Burrows and Ms. Iley made statements and answered questions.
The Chair made a closing statement.
At 6:00 p.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.

At 12:55 the committee suspended.
At 12:57 p.m., the committee proceeded in camera, pursuant to rule 92(2)(e) for the purpose of considering its agenda.
The Chair indicated that the Minutes of Proceedings should note that at the meeting of November 18, 2004, the Honourable Senator Massicotte was not present during the committee's discussion and adoption of four budgets for the fiscal year ending March 31, 2005.
At 1:00 p.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
