Extract from the Journals of the Senate, Tuesday, November 23, 2004:
The Honourable Senator Grafstein moved, seconded by the Honourable Senator Banks:
That the Standing Senate Committee on Banking, Trade and Commerce be authorized to examine and report on issues dealing with the demographic change that will occur in Canada within the next two decades; the implications of that change for Canada's economy, labour market and retirement income system; and federal actions that could be taken to ensure that any implications of future demographic change are, to the extent possible, properly addressed; and
That the Committee submit its final report no later than June 30, 2005.

The Honourable Senator Grafstein moved, seconded by the Honourable Senator Joyal, P.C.:
That, notwithstanding the Order of the Senate adopted on Tuesday, November 23, 2004, the Standing Senate Committee on Banking, Trade and Commerce, which was authorized to examine and report on issues dealing with the demographic change that will occur in Canada within the next two decades, be empowered to extend the date of presenting its final report from June 30, 2005 to December 31, 2005: and
That the Committee retain until March 31, 2006 all powers necessary to publicize its findings.
