The Standing Senate Committee on Energy, the Environment and Natural Resources met this day, in the Empire Ball room, Fairmont Hotel Macdonald, at 10:08 a.m., the Chair, the Honourable Tommy Banks, presiding.

Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Adams, Angus, Banks, Buchanan, P.C., Milne and Spivak (6).

In attendance: From the Research Branch of the Library of Parliament: Lynne Myers, Research Analyst, Science and Technology and Frédéric Beauregard-Tellier, Economics Division.

Also in attendance: The official reporters of the Senate.

Pursuant to the Order of Reference adopted by the Senate on Tuesday, October 19, 2004, the committee continued its study of emerging issues related to its mandate. (For complete text of Order of Reference, see proceedings of the committee, Issue No. 1.)

WITNESSES:

Steve Hrudey, Professor, University of Alberta.

Alberta Chamber of Resources:

John Zahary, President;

Brad Anderson, Executive Director.

Clean Air Strategic Alliance:

Donna Tringley, Executive Director;

John Donner, Board Alternate representing Alberta Environment;

Linda F. Duncan, Board Alternate representing Lake Wabamun Enhancement and Protection Association.

The Chair made an opening statement.

Mr. Hrudey and Mr. Zahary each made a presentation and answered questions.

Mr. Anderson answered questions.

At 11:30 a.m., the committee suspended.

At 11:35 p.m., the committee resumed.

Ms. Tringley, Mr. Donner and Ms. Duncan each made a presentation and answered questions.

The Chair made a closing statement.

At 12:35 p.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
