The Standing Senate Committee on Energy, the Environment and Natural Resources met this day at 5:32 p.m., in room 2, Victoria Building, the Chair, the Honourable Tommy Banks, presiding.
Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Adams, Angus, Banks, Cochrane, Kenny, Lavigne, Milne, Mitchell, Sibbeston, Spivak and Tkachuk (11).
Other senators present: The Honourable Senators Carney, P.C., McCoy and Murray, P.C. (3).
In attendance: From the Research Branch of the Library of Parliament: Lynne Myers and Sam Banks, Analysts.
Also in attendance: The official reporters of the Senate.
Pursuant to the Order of Reference adopted by the Senate on Thursday, March 29, 2007, the committee continued its study on Bill C-288, to ensure Canada meets its global climate change obligations under the Kyoto Protocol. At 10:12 a.m., the committee suspended.
At 10:15 a.m., pursuant to rule 92(2)(e), the committee resumed in camera for the consideration of a draft agenda.
It was agreed that senators' staff be permitted to remain in the room for the in camera meeting.
It was moved that the committee proceed with clause-by-clause consideration of Bill C-288 on Tuesday, May 15.
After debate, the question being put on the motion, it was adopted.
It was agreed that the committee meet in camera on Thursday, May 17 to discuss its review of the Canadian Environmental Protection Act.
It was agreed that the committee would proceed with clause-by-clause consideration of Bill S-209 on Tuesday, May 29.
It was agreed that the committee would proceed with clause-by-clause consideration of Bill S-210 on Thursday, May 31.
It was agreed that the chair seek an extension of the committee's order of reference on emerging issues.
At 10:35 a.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
