Proceedings of the Standing Committee on
Internal Economy, Budgets and Administration

Issue 3 - Evidence for June 18, 2007

OTTAWA, Monday, June 18, 2007

The Standing Committee on Internal Economy, Budgets and Administration met this day at 4:13 p.m. to consider administrative and other matters.

Senator George J. Furey (Chairman) in the chair.

[English]

The Chairman: Honourable senators, we are now on the report on the Subcommittee for the Review of Committee Budgets, and I would invite Senator Stratton to comment.

Senator Stratton: Thank you very much, Mr. Chairman.

This is the last meeting we will have until the fall for the approval of the budgets. The budget amendments are the following: for the Standing Senate Committee on Aboriginal Peoples, $2,000 for working meals for a special study on drinkable water; for the Standing Senate Committee on Official Languages, $62,980 so it can travel to Bathurst and the Acadian Peninsula for public hearings and fact-finding; and for the Standing Senate Committee on Transport and Communications, $40,424 to so that it can undertake a fact-finding mission to Prince Rupert that had been interrupted previously due to aircraft problems.

We do not have to worry about money. We seem to be spending dollars at about the same rate we did last year, and we are quite comfortable with that. We always give them a lecture on being careful, and I think for the most part that committees are being careful. I would recommend adoption of this report.

Senator Stollery: I second the motion.

The Chairman: Are there any questions, colleagues?

It is moved by Senator Stratton, seconded by Senator Stollery, that the report be now adopted. All in favour?

Hon. Senators: Agreed.

The Chairman: Carried.

We will move in camera for the second item on today's agenda.

The committee continued in camera.
