The Standing Senate Committee on Agriculture and Forestry met at 6:58 p.m., this day, in room 9, Victoria Building, the chair, the Honourable Joyce Fairbairn, P.C., presiding.
Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Callbeck, Fairbairn, P.C., Gustafson, Mahovlich, Peterson, Segal and St. Germain, P.C. (7).
In attendance: Marc Leblanc and Marc-André Pigeon, Analysts, Parliamentary Information and Research Services, Library of Parliament.
Also in attendance: The official reporters of the Senate.
Pursuant to the order of reference adopted by the Senate on Tuesday, November 20, 2007, the committee continued its consideration of rural poverty in Canada. (For complete text of order of reference, see proceedings of the committee, Issue No. 1.)

Mark Allen, Inspector, Manager, Crime Prevention Section, Investigation Bureau.
Royal Canadian Mounted Police:

The chair made an opening statement.
Mr. Aubin and Mr. Allen each made a statement and, together with Mr. Lebeuf, answered questions.

At 8:58 a.m., the committee resumed and pursuant to the order of reference adopted by the Senate on Wednesday, February 27, 2008, the committee began its consideration of Bill C-44, An Act to amend the Agricultural Marketing Programs Act.
