The Standing Senate Committee on Foreign Affairs and International Trade met this day, at 5:37 p.m., in room 160- S, Centre Block, the chair, the Honourable Consiglio Di Nino, presiding.
Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Corbin, Dawson, De Bané, P.C., Di Nino, Downe, Grafstein, Johnson, Mahovlich, Smith, P.C., and Stollery (10).
In attendance: Peter Berg, Analyst, Parliamentary Information and Research Services, Library of Parliament.
Also in attendance: The official reporters of the Senate.
Pursuant to the order of reference adopted by the Senate on Tuesday, March 4, 2008, the committee continued its study on the rise of China, India and Russia in the global economy and the implications for Canadian policy. (For complete text of the order of reference, see proceedings of the committee, Issue No. 6.)

Ken Sunquist, Assistant Deputy Minister, Global Operations and Chief Trade Commissioner;
Peter McGovern, Director General, Bilateral Commercial Relations: Asia and Americas Global Operations;
Gordon Houlden, Director General, East Asia Bureau, Bilateral Relations.
The chair made a statement.
Mr. Sunquist made a presentation and, with Mr. McGovern and Mr. Houlden, answered questions.
At 7:09 p.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the chair.
