The Standing Senate Committee on Agriculture and Forestry met this day at 5:31 p.m., in room 2, Victoria Building, the chair, the Honourable Percy Mockler, presiding.
Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Cordy, Duffy, Eaton, Fairbairn, P.C., Housakos, Mahovlich, Mercer, Mockler, Poulin and Rivard (10).
In attendance: Mathieu Frigon, Analyst, Parliamentary Information and Research Service, Library of Parliament.
Also in attendance: The official reporters of the Senate.
Pursuant to the order of reference adopted by the Senate on Tuesday, March 31, 2009, the committee continued its consideration of the current state and future of Canada's forest sector. (For complete text of order of reference, see proceedings of the committee, Issue No. 1.)
WITNESSES:
National Aboriginal Forestry Association:
Harry Bombay, Executive Director.
Canadian Institute of Forestry:
John Pineau, Executive Director.
MM. Bombay and Pineau each made opening statements and, together, answered questions.
At 7:36 p.m., the committee suspended.
At 7:40 p.m., the committee proceeded in camera, pursuant to rule 92(2)(f), to consider draft reports.
At 7:50 p.m., the committee resumed in public.
It was agreed that the following legislative budget application in the amount of $3,850 be approved for submission to the Standing Committee on Internal Economy, Budgets and Administration.
Summary of Expenditures
Professional and Other Services $ 2,500 Transportation and Communications 0 All Other Expenditures 1,350 TOTAL $ 3,850
It was agreed that the following special study budget application (current state and future of agriculture and agri'food in Canada) in the amount of $16,210 be approved for submission to the Standing Committee on Internal Economy, Budgets and Administration.
Summary of Expenditures
Professional and Other Services $ 6,850 Transportation and Communications 6,760 All Other Expenditures 2,600 TOTAL $ 16,210
It was agreed that the following special study budget application (current state and future of Canada's forest sector) in the amount of $ 17,460 be approved for submission to the Standing Committee on Internal Economy, Budgets and Administration.

Professional and Other Services $ 7,600 Transportation and Communications 6,760 All Other Expenditures 3,100 TOTAL $ 17,460
