The Standing Senate Committee on Agriculture and Forestry met this day at 8:01 a.m. in room 705, Victoria Building, the deputy chair, the Honourable Joyce Fairbairn, P.C., presiding.
Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Eaton, Fairbairn, P.C., Mercer, Mockler, Plett, Rivard and Stewart Olsen (7).
In attendance: Mathieu Frigon, Analyst, Parliamentary Information and Research Service, Library of Parliament.
Also in attendance: The official reporters of the Senate.
Pursuant to the order of reference adopted by the Senate on Tuesday, March 31, 2009, the committee continued its consideration of the current state and future of Canada's forest sector. (For complete text of order of reference, see proceedings of the committee, Issue No. 1.)
WITNESS:
BOIS-Quebec Coalition:
Robert Beauregard, President of the Coalition and Dean of the Faculty of Forestry, Geography and Geomatics, Laval University.
Mr. Beauregard made an opening statement and answered questions.
At 9:20 a.m., the committee suspended.
At 9:31 a.m., the committee resumed.
The Honourable Senator Mockler took the chair and, pursuant to rule 92(2)(f), the committee proceeded in camera to examine a draft report.
It was agreed that Senators' staff and the communications agent be allowed to remain in the room.
At 10:10 a.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the chair.
