The Standing Senate Committee on Agriculture and Forestry met this day at 5:06 p.m. in room 2, Victoria Building, the chair, the Honourable Percy Mockler, presiding.

Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Carignan, Eaton, Fairbairn, P.C., Lovelace Nicholas, Mercer, Mockler, Plett and Rivard (8).

In attendance: Mathieu Frigon and David Surprenant, Analysts, Parliamentary Information and Research Service, Library of Parliament.

Also in attendance: The official reporters of the Senate.

Pursuant to the order of reference adopted by the Senate on Tuesday, March 31, 2009, the committee continued its consideration of the current state and future of Canada's forest sector. (For complete text of order of reference, see proceedings of the committee, Issue No. 1.)

WITNESSES:

Canadian Society for Civil Engineering:

Mohamed Al-Hussein, Associate Professor, Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering, University of Alberta.

Royal Architectural Institute of Canada:

Jon Hobbs, Executive Director.

Mr. Al-Hussein and Mr. Hobbs each made opening statements and, together, answered questions.

At 6:35 p.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the chair.
