The Standing Senate Committee on Transport and Communications met this day, at 6:30 p.m., in room 256-S, Centre Block, the chair, the Honourable Lise Bacon, presiding.

Members of the committee present: The Honourable SenatorsAdams, Bacon, Cochrane, Eyton, Fox, P.C., Hervieux-Payette, P.C., Housakos, Merchant, Wallace and Zimmer (10).

In attendance: Terrence Thomas and Allison Padova, Analysts, Parliamentary Information and Research Service, Library of Parliament.

Also in attendance: The official reporters of the Senate.

Pursuant to the order of reference adopted by the Senate on Tuesday, March24, 2009, the committee continued its study on the emerging issues related to its communications mandate and to report on the wireless sector. (For complete text of the order of reference, see proceedings of the committee, Issue No.1.)

WITNESSES:

John Maduri made a statement and answered questions.

At 8:00 p.m., the committee suspended.

At 8:03 p.m., the committee resumed.

Pursuant to the order of reference adopted by the Senate on Tuesday, May26, 2009, the committee began its consideration of the Department of Public Works and Government Services Canada User Fees Amendment Proposal for services relating to the Esquimalt Graving Dock, dated May20, 2009, pursuant to the User Fees Act, S.C. 2004, c. 6, sbs. 4(2).—Sessional Paper No.2/40-394.

WITNESSES:

Public Works and Government Services Canada:

John McBain, Associate Assistant Deputy Minister, Real Property Branch;

Bonnie MacKenzie, Director General, Engineering Assets Strategy.

John McBain and Bonnie MacKenzie each made a statement and answered questions.

The committee proceeded to consider a draft report.

It was agreed that the report be adopted.

At 8:51 p.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the chair.
