The Standing Senate Committee on Aboriginal Peoples met this day at 9:32 a.m., in room 160-S, Centre Block, the Chair, the Honourable Gerry St. Germain, P.C., presiding.
Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Brazeau, Campbell, Demers, Dyck, Hubley, Patterson, Poirier, Raine, Sibbeston, St. Germain, P.C., and Stewart Olsen (11).
In attendance: Tonina Simeone and Marion Ménard, Analysts, Parliamentary Information and Research Service, Library of Parliament; and Ceri Au, Communications Officer, Communications Directorate.
Pursuant to the order of reference adopted by the Senate on Tuesday, March 16, 2010, the committee continued its consideration of the federal government's constitutional, treaty, political and legal responsibilities to First Nations, Inuit and Metis peoples and other matters generally relating to the Aboriginal Peoples of Canada. WITNESSES:
Indian and Northern Affairs Canada:
Michel Roy, Senior Assistant Deputy Minister, Treaties and Aboriginal Government;
Anik Dupont, Director General, Specific Claims.
Mr. Roy made a statement and, together with Ms. Dupont, responded to questions.
At 10:30 a.m., it was agreed that the committee adjourn to the call of the chair.

Marjorie McRae, Chief, Director, Gitxsan Government Commission.
As an individual:
Geraldine McDougall, Gitxsan Hereditary Chief Spookw.
Chief McRae and Ms. McDougall each made statements and, together, responded to questions.
At 7:54 p.m., the committee suspended.
At 8:04 p.m., the committee, pursuant to rule 92(2)(f), resumed, in camera, to consider a draft report.
It was moved that senators' staff be permitted to remain in the room during the in camera portion of the meeting.
The question being put on the motion, it was adopted.
At 8:08 p.m., it was agreed that the committee adjourn to the call of the chair.
