The Standing Senate Committee on Aboriginal Peoples met this day, at 6:45 p.m., in room 160-S, Centre Block, the chair, the Honourable Gerry St. Germain, P.C., presiding.
Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Brazeau, Campbell, Dallaire, Demers, Dyck, Lang, Patterson, Poirier, St. Germain, P.C., and Stewart Olsen (10).
Other senator present: The Honourable Senator Banks (1).
In attendance: Tonina Simeone and Danielle Lussier, Analysts, Parliamentary Information and Research Service, Library of Parliament; and Ceri Au, Communications Officer, Communications Directorate.
Also in attendance: The official reporters of the Senate.
Pursuant to the order of reference adopted by the Senate on Tuesday, December 14, 2010, the committee began its consideration of Bill S-11, An Act respecting the safety of drinking water on first nation lands.

Indian and Northern Affairs Canada:
Christine Cram, Assistant Deputy Minister, Education and Social Development Programs and Partnerships;
Karl Carisse, Senior Director, Strategic Initiatives Directorate, Community Infrastructure Branch, Education and Social Development Programs and Partnerships.
Health Canada:
Shelagh Jane Woods, Director General, Primary Health Care and Public Health, First Nations and Inuit Health Branch.
Department of Justice Canada:
Paul Salembier, General Counsel.
Ms. Cram made a statement and, together with Mr. Carisse, Mr. Salembier and Ms. Woods, answered questions.
At 8:24 p.m., it was agreed that the committee adjourn to the call of the chair.
