The Standing Senate Committee on Agriculture and Forestry met this day at 5:10 p.m., in room 2, Victoria Building, the chair, the Honourable Percy Mockler, presiding.

Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Carignan, Eaton, Mahovlich, Marshall, Mercer, Mockler, Ogilvie, Plett, Rivard and Robichaud, P.C. (10).

In attendance: Mathieu Frigon, Analyst, Parliamentary Information and Research Service, Library of Parliament.

Also in attendance: The official reporters of the Senate.

Pursuant to the order of reference adopted by the Senate on Thursday, March 11, 2010, the committee continued its consideration of the current state and future of Canada's forest sector. (For complete text of order of reference, see proceedings of the committee, Issue No. 1.)

WITNESSES:

Forest Products Sector Council:

Keith Lancastle, Executive Director.

Communications, Energy and Paperworkers Union of Canada:

Dave Coles, President.

Northern Development Initiative Trust:

Janine North, Chief Executive Officer.

Mr. Lancastle, Ms. North and Mr. Coles each made a statement and, together, the witnesses answered questions.

At 7:00 p.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the chair.

At 9:21 a.m., the committee suspended.

At 9:26 a.m., the committee resumed.

Mr. Dugré made a statement and answered questions.
