The Standing Senate Committee on Banking, Trade and Commerce met this day in camera at 4:25 p.m., in room 505, Victoria Building, the chair, the Honourable Michael A. Meighen, presiding.

Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Banks, Gerstein, Greene, Harb, Kochhar, Massicotte, Meighen, Mockler, Moore, Oliver, Ringuette and Smith (Saurel) (12).

In attendance: John Bulmer and Adriane Yong, Analysts, Parliamentary Information and Research Service, June Dewetering, Chief, Macroeconomics and Trade, Library of Parliament; and Francine Pressault, Communications Officer, Communications Directorate.

Pursuant to rule 92(2)(e), the committee considered a draft agenda.

It was agreed that senators' staff be permitted to stay in the room with the condition that no Blackberrys be used.

It was agreed to invite the Privacy Commissioner on April 6, 2011 on Bill S-201.

It was further agreed that the research staff elaborate the framework for the future study of the committee based on the proposed ideas of the members.

At 5:30 p.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the chair.

The Standing Senate Committee on Banking, Trade and Commerce met this day at 10:35 a.m., in room 9, Victoria Building, the chair, the Honourable Michael A. Meighen, presiding.

Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Banks, Gerstein, Greene, Hervieux-Payette, P.C., Kochhar, Meighen, Moore, Oliver and Ringuette (9).

Edmée Métivier, Executive Vice-President, Financing and Consulting;

Jérôme Nycz, Interim Executive Vice-President, Investments and Senior Vice-President, Strategy.

Mr. Métivier made a statement and, with Mr. Nycz, answered questions
