The Standing Senate Committee on Energy, the Environment and Natural Resources met this day, at 6:25 p.m., in room 160-S, Centre Block, the chair, the Honourable W. David Angus, presiding.

Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Angus, Banks, Brown, Dickson, Frum, Lang, Massicotte, Neufeld, Peterson and Rivard (10).

In attendance: Marc LeBlanc and Sam Banks, Analysts, Parliamentary Information and Research Service, Library of Parliament; Tracie Leblanc, Communications Officer, Communications Directorate.

Also in attendance: The official reporters of the Senate.

Pursuant to the order of reference adopted by the Senate on Thursday, March 11, 2010, the committee continued its examination of the current state and future of Canada's energy sector (including alternative energy). (For complete text of the order of reference, see proceedings of the committee, Issue No. 1.) (Canadian offshore oil/gas exploration and drilling: the current status of operations/applicable regulatory rules and regulations)

Gaétan Caron, Chair and CEO;

Brian Nesbitt, Technical Leader, Engineering, Operations Business Unit.

Canadian Association of Petroleum Producers:

David Pryce, Vice President, Operations.

The chair made an opening statement.

Mr. Caron made a statement and, together with Mr. Nesbitt, answered questions.

At 7:55 p.m., the committee resumed in camera, pursuant to rule 92(2)(e), for the consideration of future business.

It was agreed that senators' staff be authorized to remain in the room.
