The Standing Senate Committee on Energy, the Environment and Natural Resources met this day, at 6:17 p.m., in room 9, Victoria Building, the chair, the Honourable W. David Angus, presiding.

Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Angus, Banks, Brown, Dickson, Frum, Lang, McCoy, Massicotte, Mitchell, Neufeld, Peterson and Seidman (12).

In attendance: Marc LeBlanc and Sam Banks, Analysts, Parliamentary Information and Research Service, Library of Parliament; Ceri Au, Communications Officer, Communications Directorate.

Also in attendance: The official reporters of the Senate.

Pursuant to the order of reference adopted by the Senate on Thursday, March 11, 2010, the committee continued its examination of the current state and future of Canada's energy sector (including alternative energy). (For complete text of the order of reference, see proceedings of the committee, Issue No. 1.)

WITNESSES:

Canadian Propane Association:

Jim Facette, President and CEO;

Guy Marchand, Member, Board of Directors.

The chair made an opening statement.

Mr. Facette and Mr. Marchand made a statement and answered questions.

At 7:33 p.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the chair.

Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Angus, Banks, Brown, Dickson, Lang, Massicotte, Neufeld, Peterson and Seidman (9).

Pursuant to the order of reference adopted by the Senate on Thursday, March 11, 2010, the committee began its study on emerging issues related to its mandate.

Scott Vaughan, Commissioner of the Environment and Sustainable Development;

James McKenzie, Principal.

Andrew Ferguson, Principal.

The chair made an opening statement.

Mr. Vaughan made a statement and together with Mr. McKenzie and Mr. Ferguson, answered questions.

At 10:06 a.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the chair.
