The Standing Senate Committee on National Finance met this day, at 1:03 p.m., in room 9, Victoria Building, the deputy chair, the Honourable Irving Gerstein, presiding.

Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Callbeck, Day, Dickson, Eggleton, P.C., Finley, Gerstein, Marshall, Mitchell, Moore, Murray, P.C., Neufeld, Ringuette and Runciman (13).

In attendance: Lydia Scratch and John Bulmer, Analysts, Parliamentary Information and Research Service, Library of Parliament; Francine Pressault, Communications Officer, Communications Directorate.

Also in attendance: The official reporters of the Senate.

Pursuant to the order of reference adopted by the Senate on Thursday, June 10, 2010, the committee continued its examination of Bill C-9, An Act to implement certain provisions of the budget tabled in Parliament on March 4, 2010 and other measures. (For complete text of the order of reference, see proceedings of the committee, Issue No. 9.)

The chair made an opening statement.

Mr. Wilkes and Mr. Oakey each made a presentation and, together, answered questions.

At 2:02 p.m., the committee suspended.

At 2:06 p.m., the committee resumed, the chair, the Honourable Joseph A. Day presiding.

Ms. Menke and Mr. Rossi answered questions.

It was agreed:

That the committee hear from non-governmental witnesses and ministers for the remainder of this week and into the week beginning July 5; and that clause-by-clause study of the bill be completed by July 8.

At 3:20 p.m., the committee suspended.

At 3:25 p.m., the committee resumed.

Mr. Braniff and Mr. Gascho each made a presentation and, together, answered questions.

At 4:19 p.m., the committee suspended.

At 4:25 p.m., the committee resumed.

Mr. McCrossan, Mr. Blandford and Ms. Dias each made a presentation and, together, answered questions.

At 5:23 p.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the chair.
