The Standing Senate Committee on Legal and Constitutional Affairs met this day in camera, at 4:29 p.m., in room 257, East Block, the deputy chair, the Honourable John D. Wallace, presiding.
Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Angus, Baker, P.C., Boisvenu, Carignan, Chaput, Joyal, P.C., Lang, Runciman, Wallace and Watt (10).
In attendance: Jennifer Bird, Analyst, Parliamentary Information and Research Service, Library of Parliament.
Pursuant to the order of reference adopted by the Senate on Monday, September 27, 2010, the committee continued its consideration on the National Parole Board User Fees Proposal. (For complete text of the order of reference, see proceedings of the committee, Issue No. 12.)
Pursuant to rule 92 (2)(f), the committee commenced its consideration of a draft report.
It was agreed that senators' staff be permitted to remain in the room during the in camera portion of today's meeting.
The deputy chair made an opening statement.
At 5:23 p.m. the committee continued in public.
The Honourable Senator Joyal, P.C. moved:
That the committee's twelfth report, recommending that the Senate approve the proposed increase to the National Parole Board's component of the pardon user fee from $35 to $135, which creates a total fee of $150 (including the RCMP's component), in accordance with section 5 of the User Fees Act, be adopted; and
That the observations be adopted and appended to the report.
The question being put on the motion, it was adopted.
The Honourable Senator Lang moved:
That Subcommittee on Agenda and Procedure be empowered to approve the final version of the observations being appended to the report taking into consideration today's discussion and with any necessary editorial, grammatical or translation changes as required; and
That the deputy chair present the report, with observations, in the Senate.
The question being put on the motion, it was adopted.
At 5:26 p.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the deputy chair.
