The Standing Senate Committee on Aboriginal Peoples met in camera this day, at 6:55 p.m., in room 160-S, Centre Block, the chair, the Honourable Vernon White, presiding.
Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Demers, Eaton, Lovelace Nicholas, Meredith, Munson, Patterson, Raine, Sibbeston and White (9).
Other senator present: The Honourable Senator Seth (1).
In attendance: Shauna Troniak and Wren Nasr, Analysts, Parliamentary Information and Research Service, Library of Parliament.
Pursuant to the order of reference adopted by the Senate on Wednesday, March 28, 2012, the committee continued its consideration on the evolving legal and political recognition of the collective identity and rights of the Métis in Canada. (For complete text of the order of reference, see proceedings of the committee, Issue No. 14.)
Pursuant to rule 12-16(1)(d), the committee considered a draft report.
It was agreed that senators' staff be permitted to remain during the in camera portion of the meeting.
It was agreed that the report be adopted in principle and that the chair and deputy chair be empowered to approve the final version of the report taking into consideration the final changes agreed to by the committee, along with typographical, grammatical, and other technical errors.
At 8:53 p.m., it was agreed that the committee adjourn to the call of the chair.
