The Standing Senate Committee on Aboriginal Peoples met this day, at 6:52 p.m., in room 257, East Block, the chair, the Honourable Lillian Eva Dyck, presiding.
Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Beyak, Demers, Dyck, Patterson, Raine, Seth, Sibbeston, Tannas and Watt (9).
In attendance: Shauna Troniak and Wren Nasr, Analysts, Parliamentary Information and Research Service, Library of Parliament.
Also in attendance: The official reporters of the Senate.
Pursuant to the order of reference adopted by the Senate on Thursday, June 16, 2011, the committee continued its consideration of the federal government's constitutional, treaty, political and legal responsibilities to First Nations, Inuit and Metis peoples and other matters generally relating to the Aboriginal Peoples of Canada. WITNESSES:
Assembly of First Nations:
Shawn (A-in-chut) Atleo, National Chief;
Cameron Alexis, Regional Chief (Alberta);
Roger Augustine, Regional Chief (New Brunswick and Prince Edward Island).
Mr. Atleo made a statement and, together with Mr. Alexis and Mr. Augustine, answered questions.
At 8:12 p.m., it was agreed that the committee adjourn to the call of the chair.
