The Standing Senate Committee on Banking, Trade and Commerce met this day at 10:37 a.m., in room 9, Victoria Building, the chair, the Honourable Michael A. Meighen, presiding.
Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Gerstein, Harb, Hervieux-Payette, P.C., Massicotte, Meighen, Moore, Smith (Saurel), Stewart Olsen and Tkachuk (9).
In attendance: John Bulmer, June Dewetering and Adriane Yong, Analysts, Parliamentary Information and Research Service, Library of Parliament.
Also in attendance: The official reporters of the Senate.
Pursuant to the order of reference adopted by the Senate on Tuesday, June 21, 2011, the committee continued its examination of the present state of the domestic and international financial system. (For the complete text of the order of reference, see proceedings of the committee, Issue No. 1.)
WITNESSES:
Telfer School of Management, University of Ottawa:
Barbara Orser, Deloitte Professor in the Management of Growth Enterprises.
Canadian Women in Communications:
Stephanie MacKendrick, President.
Canadian Women in Technology:
Lynda Partner, Director.
The chair made a statement.
Ms. Orser, Ms. MacKendrick and Ms. Partner each made a statement and together answered questions.
At 12:06 p.m., the committee suspended.
At 12:10 p.m., pursuant to rule 92(2)(e), the committee proceeded in camera to consider a draft agenda (future business).
It was agreed that senators' staff be permitted to remain in the room for the in camera portion of the meeting.
At 12:30 p.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the chair.
