The Standing Senate Committee on National Finance met this day in camera at 9:30 a.m., in room 9, Victoria Building, the chair, the Honourable Joseph A. Day, presiding.

Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Bellemare, Black, Buth, Callbeck, Chaput, Day, Hervieux-Payette, P.C., McInnis, Neufeld and Smith (Saurel) (10).

In attendance: Édison Roy-César and Sylvain Fleury, Analysts, Parliamentary Information and Research Service, Library of Parliament.

Also in attendance: The official reporters of the Senate.

Pursuant to the order of reference adopted by the Senate on Tuesday, February 26, 2013, the committee continued its examination of the expenditures set out in the Main Estimates for the fiscal year ending March 31, 2014. (For complete text of the order of reference, see proceedings of the committee, Issue No. 34.)

Pursuant to rule 12-16(1)(d), the committee considered a draft report.

It was agreed that senators' staff be allowed to stay in the room, with the condition that no blackberries be used.

It was agreed that the committee allow the transcription of today's in camera meeting, that one copy be kept in the office of the clerk of the committee for consultation by committee members present and the committee analysts, and that the transcript be destroyed by the clerk when authorized to do so by the Subcommittee on Agenda and Procedure but not later than at the end of this parliamentary session.

It was agreed that the interim report on the Main Estimates 2013-2014, be adopted, as amended, and that the Subcommittee on Agenda and Procedure be authorized to make minor editorial revisions.

It was agreed that this report be tabled in the chamber at the earliest opportunity.

At 10:05 a.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the chair.
