The Standing Senate Committee on National Finance met this day at 6:45 p.m., in room 9, Victoria Building, the chair, the Honourable Joseph A. Day, presiding.

Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Bellemare, Black, Buth, Callbeck, Chaput, Day, De Bané, P.C., Duffy, Gerstein, Hervieux-Payette, P.C., McInnis and Smith (Saurel) (12).

In attendance: Édison Roy-César and Sylvain Fleury, Analysts, Parliamentary Information and Research Service, Library of Parliament.

Also in attendance: The official reporters of the Senate.

Pursuant to the order of reference adopted by the Senate on Tuesday, February 26, 2013, the committee continued its examination of the expenditures set out in the Main Estimates for the fiscal year ending March 31, 2014. (For complete text of the order of reference, see proceedings of the committee, Issue No. 34.)

Department of Finance Canada:

Sherry Harrison, Assistant Deputy Minister, Corporate Services Branch;

Jean-Michel Catta, Assistant Deputy Minister, Consultations and Communications Branch;

Diane Lafleur, Director General, Financial Sector Branch;

Frank Des Rosiers, Director General, Tax Policy Branch;

Brian Pagan, Director, Fiscal Policy, Economic and Fiscal Policy Branch;

Nicholas Leswick, Director, International Finance and Development Division;

Chantal Maheu, General Director, Federal-Provincial Relations and Social Policy Branch;

Mr. Meredith made a statement and, together with Mr. Corriveau, answered questions.

Mr. Everson made a statement and, together with Mr. Mayers, answered questions.

At 7:53 p.m., the committee suspended.

At 7:58 p.m., the committee resumed.

Ms. Harrison made a statement and, together with Mr. Catta, Ms. Lafleur, Mr. Des Rosiers, Mr. Pagan, Mr. Leswick, Ms. Maheu and Mr. Ezzeddin, answered questions.

At 8:50 p.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the chair.
